American Songwriter “The duo intentionally left space in the song’s scaffolding. The natural world dwells in the hallows left untouched by instrumentation. Like the passing of seasons, the two typically touring artists witnessed this year, their approach held the song’s original shape, shifting only gradually from their predecessors to display an evolution through time and space.“ See full article
In Their Own Words
Following the release of our respective solo albums earlier this year, we wanted to come together to release something into the world that brought us tender joy to benefit a cause we both believe in. Wild Mountain Thyme is one of those timeless songs that seems to exist in the ether, and it feels especially right in this time of isolation to step into the queue of this song’s bearers and echo an incantation of it back into the world. We built the song around an a capella rendering, layering in the strings, drone, piano and bells. The footage of this lightning storm, captured at the end of summer over the Atlantic ocean on the barrier islands of the North Carolina coast, echoed the tension of the staggered strings, and felt like the right balance of awe at the natural world.
