Josh Kimbrough
Josh is a fingerstyle guitarist and composer from Chapel Hill, NC. His music combines classical guitar and American primitive sensibilities. Patient melodic phrasing, and precise, but pliable grooves are trademarks of his compositions. He tends to take a song to the edge of sentimentality, but pull it back just in time with bluesy dissonance and harmonic grit. For 15 years Josh was a core member (artist, tour manager) of the Trekky Records collective (Lost in the Trees, Phil Cook, Sylvan Esso). Recordings of his work have been published by Trekky Records, Special Passenger Records, and Potluck Foundation. He’s performed at Hopscotch Music Festival, Haw River Music Festival, Phuzz Phest, Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival, and Nashville Unlimited. Josh’s forthcoming album, Slither, Soar, & Disappear, is an intimate and immersive song cycle inspired by the natural world, fatherhood, and the joy of solitude. On it, small ensembles of double bass, flute, strings, mandolin, banjo, and drums adorn his nylon and steel string guitar work.
